Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
